EcoSikh Ireland is honoured to be featured in Havens for Nature: Supporting Biodiversity in Faith Grounds, a national guidance booklet produced by The Heritage Council to help faith communities across Ireland care for biodiversity on their grounds. This publication brings together practical guidance and real examples from different faith traditions, including EcoSikh Ireland, Clare’s Return to Nature church project, and other communities working with Local Authority Biodiversity Officers. Grounded in Sikh teachings of oneness and respect for all, our Havens for Nature work shows how community spaces and school grounds can become vibrant sanctuaries for wildlife and places of learning and reflection for people. It builds on EcoSikh Ireland’s wider environmental mission to restore nature and enhance biodiversity through minority empowerment projects across Ireland.
Our contribution to Havens for Nature showcases how projects such as the Guru Nanak Sacred Forest in Templeglantine and the Guru Nanak Freedom Forest in Greystones are transforming underused grass areas into dense, native micro‑forests. Through Havens for Nature, EcoSikh Ireland hopes to inspire more faith communities, schools and landowners to see their grounds as living expressions of their values – places where people, wildlife and future generations can all thrive together.
